Where to find free marketing

Hi everyone, it’s been awhile since I’ve written a blog. I’ve been mainly focused on my books and scripts and juggling projects. Today however I spent the entire day in marketing. Which brought up the thought that I need to share these tidbits with all of you.

I aim to find as much free marketing as I can, keeping my budget to editing and covers. Here are a few I’ve found. If you know of more, please share in the comments for everyone else too. I’ll post all links at the end.

The new one today (which I did share in a few groups) is an android app Booksniffer. This claims to allow people to follow you and it does allow you to create new free ads. I made this one in three clicks.

A web based classified called Locanto. This is simple to use and even though you need to fill out the form for every location you want to post, the form auto fills most – I use notepad to keep the description – so it’s fairly quick. I also post to Provinces and States, not cities. You can literally have ads worldwide free if you have the time. PS the listing may say 32 days but they run forever without deleting.

And don’t forget Google My Business, both an app and a website. These are located on the google main page, top right corner at the 9-dots, open them (if you aren’t familiar) and scroll down to my business. On the phone, head into the app store and search googlemybuisness and get it.  You don’t need to pay to use it. I don’t, and I get almost 7000 hits a month – sometimes more, depending on my posts.

And this is all I did today.  There are others, but that’s it for now. Again if you know any good free places, give a share!

Marketing that works

The first hardest part of self-publishing is the writing.

The second is getting attention.

As Indie’s we work our butts off in marketing our own work. There’s blogs, interviews, social media interactions, groups, videos, and on and on – you know the drill.

And of course, we’ll try anything ONCE.

The other day I was googling a business, and it hit me, “Why don’t I try putting myself on google maps?”

That’s exactly what I did.

I don’t particularly like that my home address is so easily visible, I’m sure a PO Box will remedy that. But I also am not hard to find if anyone really looks anyway – I figure while I’m not super famous – I’d take a chance.

This is how it looks when I google my name 🙂

This is the results after only 6 days!

14,720 VIEWS 23 CLICKS cost me $15.19!

Yes, it costs money, but you control it. I created a cap of $50.00 a month just to see how that would translate. It’s going well and not costing me a fortune.  You can also create weekly ads (you actually have to change them weekly, which I don’t care for) but I made a call to action, below.

Now people don’t even have to click through to my website, they can click buy and it takes them directly to my Amazon page.

Get creative, share events, re-direct to your website or Amazon. Take the world by storm and make yourself known.

I’m always open to discuss – drop me a comment! Theresa

Making book video promo’s

When I first decided to make a “commercial” for my debut novel, I searched and searched for free options. I tried a few and found them lacking.

Then I discovered Animoto. I liked the ease of use and the amount of options to play with. However using for free left me with their branding. It wasn’t too obnoxious, but some people didn’t like it.

Over the last couple of years, they’ve taken away many of the best features, moving them to the paying only options, and it became harder to create a simple ad.

Some great people in a writers club told me the Windows Movie Maker was good, and watermark free!

I checked it out, it did cost me $40.00 – but that’s for life. Which is worth it in the grand plan of becoming a famous author.

I’ve made many commercials over the past couple of months and so far so good.

I would love to know what you use, what price you paid, and see your commercials too.

Please share with us so we can all learn and grow together.

HOW TO:

For anyone new to creating ads, I use free stock photo’s, plop them into the movie maker, play with all the setting already there and the music is there too.  Some of it not the best, there are free sound bite sites as well. If you have more questions, comment and we can talk.
