Imagine that?

People are always asking where writers get their ideas from. I’ve written about this before, as have many other writers. But here is a twist for you; it’s also the reason my grammar is so horrendously bad.

Okay maybe not the only reason-I have a less than stellar education-put that aside for another day.  Today I want to try and explain my mind to you.

This should be interesting.

Or not…

When I am writing, whether it’s a blog such as this or as simple as my grocery list, I don’t see words before me, I see images. The pictures or visions in my mind never shut off. Even when I’m reading, which is how I can miss so many errors… I have to concentrate hard to see them.

An easy example. I wrote a grocery list as:

Zety Doritos

mixed preztezls

tomamtoses

And why would I write like that? Well my note pad doesn’t have auto-correct which I rely on heavily. And as I was writing I was seeing the burnt orange large bag of Zesty Doritos and the exact shelf they are in in the store.  Same with the mixed Pretzels, I saw the bag, which I now recall are named, Munchies, and again where they are located. For the tomatoes, I saw the big mound of almost ripe, juicy, red, tasty veggies and a few meals that required them.

So if you catch a few missed errors (I do pay for professional editing by the way, no one is perfect) in my novels, please know it’s not that I don’t care. It’s that my imagination has the better of me, and I’m gad for it! My insane imagination creates the plots, characters, and everything that befalls them.

If only I could draw!

And what I was my mind seeing as I wrote this? Why I recalled writing the list, where I was standing, what I was wearing, who I was talking to, and laughing my ass off when I actually looked at my spelling.

That’s my story and I’m stick to it – what’s yours?

How do you write?

People are always asking how to write and work full time. Here’s my advice.

Give up any thoughts of a social life – at least for the first ten years.

black-and-white-1283234_1280

Use the weather to your advantage.

Too hot = air condition and write.

Too cold = crank the heat and write.

Just right = get technological (or old school) and write outside! street-1209401_640

Forget about sleep!

Nap before you crash.

Try not to go insane and put those thoughts to paper!

Happy writing folks!

Blurb, blurb, blurrr….

You all know the drill. Been there done that. Hated every second of it!

Most of the time I’m not too put off by creating the blurb. Occasionally it’s even fun.

I didn’t create this one, but it’s a blurb with a shameless plug

There are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of articles, websites, and blogs dedicated to writing the perfect blurb. Google it and see. I’m not here to give advice, I’m here to ask your help!

I keep re-writing my blurb and posting on a few writers Facebook sites and they keep bouncing back with hems and ha’s

Here is my last attempt – still searching for exactly the right hook.

Wife N’ Death

When Angelica commits murder/suicide, she thought her troubles would end. What came next was worse than her tortured life. In purgatory, she is stalked by the one she killed with no way out.

Until one day, something beyond her control changes.

~

Crystal runs from her troubled past to a new house in a new town, in a nice neighborhood. She believes this will be the best new beginning for her little girl. Not long after moving her daughter begins to act out of character and Crystal blames herself for the change.

Only Angelica knows the truth; that these women should not be in her house.  Now she must find a way to stop what she started. To save the innocent and break her own bonds.

Before evil rules them all.

Chime in, tell me what you think – or share your blurb woes

Even Writers Need Fashion

On Jan 27th 2018 I will be hosting my first ever Book Signing at the Local Chapters.

The ladies out there will understand, this is a great way to narrow down the selection and make preview day go that much smoother. Just because I spend many hours at home tucked away in my jammies, doesn’t mean I can’t look smashing in public 🙂

PS .. ignore the little hole in the wall, we are renovating!

This has helped narrow it down to 6 possible outfits. Anyone out there wants to toss in their opinions, please feel free.

A Writers Life is Stranger Than Fiction

People always ask writers where they get their ideas. Most of the time we can’t tell you that. It’s like asking a human how they can walk, or talk, or think, we just do. There are times, however, when Life is stranger than fiction, and these great weird moments can evolve into an entire book or even just a snip in a story we are working on.

So this happened to me the other night.

1:30 I awaken with the need to pee – happens to the best of us – although my routine is 4:00 am – so this is a very unusual time.stone-dog-194453_640

I climb back into my warm cozy place in bed and suddenly the room is lit up as though the overhead light has been turned on. I open my eyes and the husband’s phone, normally off, is face up and some sort of silent notification came through that woke it. Ok weird but whatever, I snuggle back in…. and then an alarm clock, that I have never heard before, starts buzzing from the basement of all places!

I’m so tired at this point I don’t even care about the cold house (winter in Canada) or that I’m in my birthday suit, or that perhaps there is a demon lying in wait.

I run downstairs to find an old alarm clock that my husband had plugged in to view the time. The next oddity was that the alarm dial was in the off position! I pressed buttons until it shut up and went back to bed.

As I snuggled in I thought is someone trying to tell me something? Then rolled over figuring if it was really important they could try again, I was just too tired to care.

However, in the light of day, I was pondering why those three unusual occurrences transpired and would be a good idea to slip things like this into my next novel.

Darn it …what was my blog?

While blogging weekly can be a daunting undertaking, most of us find something to talk about. However when you have a brilliant flash of a blog mid week but neglect to write it down – that’s a pisser!

I awoke this morning to blog and had absolutely no idea what my mind-blowingly-thousand-likes -blog was going to be!

elephant-1090834_640

I did my chores, walked the dog, had some lunch and tried not to think about it. Maybe it would sneak back into my consciousness if I avoided thinking about it altogether.

Winnie_the_Pooh_Hmm_Think_Think_Think

Clearly, via the state of this Blog, that did not happen. Perhaps next week I’ll have that showstopper. But for today you are left with this –
